Abberior rsEGFP is a reversibly switchable Fluorescent Protein (rsFP). Its fast switching kinetics, high number of switching cycles and low residual fluorescence in the off state are crucial for in vivo superresolution imaging at low light intensities. It works well with the Abberior Instruments Expert Line RESOLFT Microscopes.

Compared to Dronpa, another RSFP, rsEGFP has superior photostability and switching speed. Proving more than 10 times higher photostability over Dronpa, Abberior rsEGFP is able to undergo > 1200 switching cycles. At the same time the switching speed is increased by more than one order of magnitude. The fast switching kinetics of Abberior rsEGFP enables RESOLFT imaging at low light intensities.

The protein is switched into the fluorescent on state at 405 nm. Fluorescence excitation happens most effectively at 491 nm, the same wavelength that also switches the protein to its off modification.
